Kristine Ajrouch, PhD, co-lead of the CAPRA Pilot Core, was featured in a recent Planet Detroit news article highlighting her research through the Detroit Aging and Memory Project looking at the hidden dementia crisis in Arab American communities. Despite being present in the US for a considerable amount of time, these populations have typically been marked as white in previous studies, making it impossible to distinguish patterns of health risks unique to MENA communities. Dr. Ajrouch’s study is the first of its kind to address this oversight and is an important step for both memory research and health equity.
