It’s all about the idea that we are better together.
Central to CAPRA’s mission of developing science that can inform policy and help impact the negative impacts of dementia is the idea that this condition is far-reaching in its impact and should be approached from multiple perspectives. The synergistic idea that we are better together than alone is a pillar in CAPRA’s external networks which help broaden our understanding and approach of ADRD research.
Long-Term Care Network
with the Gateway to Global Aging Data Network at the University of Southern California (USC)
The long-term care (LTC) network with the Gateway to Global Aging Data (The Gateway) looks to inform long-term care researchers, including those with a focus on AD/ADRD, to promote international interactions among scholars in the LTC field. In addition to offering monthly virtual seminars, the Gateway & CAPRA have planned multiple conferences together and provide opportunities for CAPRA affiliates to collaborate with the Gateway professional development activities (i.e., data ‘hack-a-thons’).

Financial and Economic Decision-Making Over the Lifespan
with the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER)
This external network with another research center at NBER aims to advance new research on the financial and economic decision-making consequences and outcomes associated with ADRD. This group meets annually in-person at a multi-day meeting and provides multiple opportunities to collaborate with CAPRA-NBER members on working papers, grant submissions, among others.
CAPRA’s External Networks are co-lead by Julie Bynum, MD, MPH and Laura Zahodne, PhD. Dr. Bynum is the Margaret Terpenning Professor of Medicine in the Division of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Michigan. Dr. Zahodne is a professor of psychology and clinical neuropsychologist in the Department of Psychology at the University of Michigan.
